THANK YOU… THANK YOU ALL!

On Sunday 2nd March, the Dave Young Science Scholarship team ran, jogged and walked the Round the Bays fun run on the Auckland waterfront. Young and old we all finished the 8.4km in good form.

Dave’s charity couldn’t have been luckier to find such a super team of race warriors. They have raised a wonderful amount of money to help our local tamariki and to encourage their passion for science.

Currently we have raised a fantastic $7,304.98 with money still being donated.

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the racers who put in so much time and energy; the donators for their contributions, and the well-wishers for their motivational comments that helped us all the way round!

Round the Bays Auckland 2025

The Dave Young Memorial Science Charity is doing it’s first major fundraiser. We have entered the ‘Round the Bays’ fun run. Most of us are running the Auckland race – 8.4Km on Sunday 2nd March, but we have 2 runners participating in the Wellington race next Sunday.

Our Wellington runners are ex-students of Dave’s, from Pukekohe High School – Joseph and Matthew Fleming. We wish them all the best in the their run and hope they have a great, fun day out.

If anyone would like to join us on our run (most of us are walking it, so you don’t have to be a runner), we’d love you to come along. Or you could donate to the charity and help us to help our young aspiring scientists.

Annual Update from the Board

It has been one year since this charitable trust scholarship was formed and we thought that this
would be a good time to let the community and donors know what we have been up to.

When Dave tragically died in January 2023 it was a shock to the community, family and friends.
People wanted to help in any way that they could. The search parties were well fed and we received
monetary donations.

Dave’s family and friends wanted to keep his memory alive. He was such a fun-loving, happy and
helpful man that we thought his generosity should be paid-forward. So it was, that the scholarship
was formed. Dave was a science teacher at Pukekohe High School and he lived in Onewhero. The
donations received were put into the newly formed charitable trust.

During the past year we have completed all the ‘legal’ aspects of the trust. The trustees have started
to formulate plans on how best to help students and the community moving forward. The
scholarship will award a prize to students from Pukekohe High School and Onewhero Area School
annually. Going forward the trust is hoping to expanding their presence in the community – ideas to
follow.

Last year we issued the first two annual scholarships. The young man from Onewhero Area School is
now studying Business Agriculture and the young lady from Pukekohe High School is studying Health
Science.

This year the trust is hoping to expand its focus with something involving the community. As yet we
don’t know what, but ideas would be welcome.
